❌ Not true! We can only assume that this “unknown” source in the post was a complete fabrication. John Jacob Astor IV was indeed born into a wealthy family and further amassed a significant fortune through real estate. At 47, after divorcing his first wife, he married 18-year-old socialite Madeleine Talmage Force. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Jacob_Astor_IV The couple boarded the Titanic, so that Astor's pregnant second wife could give birth in America. During the Titanic's fateful collision, Astor initially remained composed and helped his wife, her maid, and nurse into a lifeboat. He then requested to join them, citing his wife's "delicate condition," but was denied by Officer Lightoller, who was enforcing the policy of allowing only women and children to board the lifeboats at that time. This event was witnessed by Archibald Gracie IV, a survivor of the Titanic, whose testimony can be found in the US Senate Inquiry into the sinking: http://www.titanicinquiry.org/USInq/AmInq11Gracie01.php Only the picture of the post is accurate, showing John Jacob Astor IV with his young, pregnant wife en route to board the RMS Titanic in 1912, accompanied by their dog Kitty.
