You can train skills. You can't train integrity. And by integrity, I don't mean just honesty or good intentions. I mean the character that shows up when nobody's watching When it's easier to blame others than own the mess. When pressure builds and shortcuts beckon. Most leaders hire for technical skills. Then wonder why talented people create chaos, cut ethical corners, or abandon ship when accountability comes calling. Warren Buffett once said he looks for three things in people: intelligence, energy, and integrity. "Without the last one," he added, "don't even bother with the first two." The smartest hire I ever made failed the technical test. But when I asked about a time they disappointed someone, they owned it completely. No deflection. No excuses. Just responsibility and what they learned. That person became our most trusted team member. The questions that reveal integrity aren't on most interview scripts: 1) "Walk me through a time you had to choose between what was easy and what was right." Listen for: Specific details. Real stakes. How they decided. 2) "Tell me about someone you worked with who deserved more credit than they got." Watch for: Do they elevate others naturally? Or struggle to find examples? 3) "Describe your biggest professional regret." Notice: Ownership vs blame. Learning vs defensiveness. 4) "What's a commitment you made that became harder than expected? How did you handle it?" Look for: Follow-through when things get tough. We see polished resumes and assume character. We see smooth answers and assume authenticity. We see confidence and assume they'll do right when tested. But integrity isn't performed in interviews. It's revealed in the stories between the achievements. You don't rise to the crisis. You fall to your level of integrity. And when pressure hits: missed deadlines, budget cuts, difficult conversations; Your team will show you exactly who you hired. Skills might win the quarter. But integrity builds the company that lasts. ♻️ Share to help leaders hire the right persons ➕ Follow Florence Divet ☀️ for leadership people actually want to follow. Le débunk

⚠️ Quote distorted and given a different meaning. Here’s what Warren Buffett, Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, actually said in 2001 during a speech to business students at the University of Georgia. The tone was deliberately tongue-in-cheek. He asked students to imagine they could hire any of their classmates, and to think about the criteria they would use to make their choice or to reject someone. Warren Buffett then said: “(…) we look for 3 things when we hire people. We look for intelligence. We look for initiative or energy and we look for integrity. And if they don't have the latter, the first two will kill you because if you're going to get somebody without integrity, you want them lazy and dumb. I mean, yeah, you don't want them smart and energetic. “ More broadly, Warren was encouraging students to reflect on why they admire certain people and to work on correcting their own flaws while they were still young and able to choose the kind of person they wanted to become. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a9Lx9J8uSs Hear the specific quote here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpmY1aK3jP8
