The Dark Side of Luxury Cruises: A Wake-Up Call
Imagine enjoying a luxurious cruise, only to realize that thousands of gallons of sewage and wastewater are being dumped into the ocean beneath you. According to environmental reports, cruise ships release over a billion gallons of waste into the sea every year—including human waste, greywater, and toxic chemicals.
Shockingly, this practice is legal in many areas once the ship is 3+ miles offshore. But at what cost? Marine life suffers, ecosystems collapse, and we contribute to the destruction of our oceans—all for the sake of convenience.
It’s time to demand accountability from the cruise industry. Stricter regulations, sustainable waste management, and consumer awareness can drive change. Would you still board a cruise knowing this?

❌ False: This image was generated by artificial intelligence. From the outset, we can see an inconsistency with a cruise ship supposedly positioned in front of another whose size appears disproportionate. The eddies in the water are also very strange
A mirror view of the same video was used on a completely different topic: the transfer of sand from the Florida coast to the beaches.

Cruise ships are not allowed to dump sewage just anywhere as they please. The MARPOL Convention governs the prevention of pollution from ships. Annex 4 deals with sewage and stipulates that the discharge of this water is prohibited within 3 nautical miles of the nearest land if the ship is not equipped with a treatment system (grinding + disinfection).

Without a treatment system, the ship must be more than 12 nautical miles from the coast, and untreated sewage should be discharged at a moderate rate that has to be approved by the Administration, when the ship is en route and proceeding at a speed not less than 4 knots.
