This post is about #Brand and #BrandReputation. The difference is that our brand is what we say and do. Our brand reputation is what others believe about what we’ve said and done.
This is why Brand Reputation is indivisible from #CX. Brand reputation is why people buy when the chips are down.
Not many companies anywhere can teach ROLEX a lot about Brand Reputation. Yes, they’ve woven a magic in our minds about the design, the status, the performance of a Rolex in situations most buyers will never encounter.
Yet in the end, the Rolex brand cannot be separated from the excellence, in real life, of its products. And here’s the proof. Just saw this on a watch site. The surfer was named, but I removed his identity here.
“An Australian surfer found this decades-old Rolex Submariner reference number 5513 on the seabed in the Noosa area. Remarkably, the watch was still in working condition.”
This is despite its long immersion in salt water, exposed to the tumbling of violent wave action for years and years and years. Who knows exactly how long ago it was lost, but the reference number suggests its manufacturing date was the late 1980s.
Check it out. 🤩 This is what we should all aspire to, no matter our business or profession!

Le débunk
✅️True, except for one detail.
Cuddihy, a forest ranger and surfer in Australia, found a Rolex Submariner watch ref. 5513 at sea in June 2023 and posted it on his Instagram to find its owner.
https://cvc.li/Ginjy
He found it and was able to authenticate it thanks to the singular inscription on the back of the watch: "Presented in 1971". This intriguing detail meant a lot to Ric, the owner. In fact, the watch was given to him in 1971, when he was 18, by his father to celebrate his victory in his first regatta at Noosa, which makes it even older than advertised in the post.
All the more precious as his father is a survivor of the WW2, his boat was blown up and he was imprisoned. He returned home to Australia in 1945.
What's astonishing is that this watch, which was submerged in the sea for 4 years, continues to work: you can read about it here:
